Prevent Getting Hacked! Importance of a VPN | Phone, Tablet, Computer

Phone connected to a Virtual Private Network VPN

Are you looking to protect yourself from getting your identity stolen? Personal information leaked out into the web? Personal accounts like Facebook hacked?

A VPN (Virtual Private Network) for your phone, computer, and/or tablet can help. Read below to find out more.

What is a VPN?

VPN stands for Virtual Private Network, and is a tool you can use to protect your privacy and help avoid identity theft.

In short, a VPN sits between you and the internet and encrypts your data so it cannot be viewed by third parties, such as a hacker.

There are many VPN’s to choose from, each with their own pro’s and con’s depending on what you want. As part of my Tech Support service, I can help choose the best VPN for your needs and get it properly configured and setup on all your devices (phone, laptop, etc).

When is a VPN Important?

Using a VPN at all times will keep you safer, but there are times when using a VPN is even more critical.

If you ever use public WiFi – These connections are not secure, and with relative ease, an intruder can see all traffic that goes over the WiFi network and gain access to your personal information. You will want to think twice before connecting to that Starbucks WiFi with no VPN.

If you want privacy – VPN’s enable you to hide your location because when connected to one, websites will only be able to see the VPN’s IP address, not your personal one. Combined with the fact all your traffic is encrypted, your online privacy is maintained. Advertising companies can no longer reliably track you, your internet service provide or third party hacker won’t be able to see your information, etc.

If you want to bypass geographic restrictions – Some video streaming websites like Netflix have geographic restrictions that prevent you from watching certain shows if you do not reside in that country. To get around this, most VPN’s allow you to select which country to route your traffic through. As a result, when visiting websites or streaming services, their system will believe you actually reside in that location and you can access those shows.

Get a VPN and follow these steps to protect yourself, and being worried about losing your identity or getting hacked will be a thing of the past.
